Recruiting rolls forward for Brian Cobbs

It was just 12 months ago when we tabbed Brian Cobbs of Hayfield as one of the most impressive Northern Virginia athletes who had yet to land a scholarship offer. I talked to him at the Nike Opening Regional at Centreville High School 52 weeks ago.
Now Brian Cobbs is closing in on ten scholarship offers.
The latest offer came from Buffalo on Monday afternoon.
“They have a new quarterbacks coach (Jim Zebrowski) who is changing their offense to a more spread type of offense,” said Cobbs. “(Members of) the old staff just wanted to see what I looked like during basketball season and they liked me then.”
Cobbs went on to explain that the staff was waiting for the arrival of the new quarterbacks coach. He put the stamp of approval on offering Cobbs and the offer came directly from Zebrowski.
Brian now holds offers from Old Dominion, NC State, UVA, Wake Forest, Temple, Yale, and Buffalo.
“I’m hearing from Cincinnati, Florida State, Michigan State, Penn State and North Carolina,” Brian stated. He also mentioned Ohio State in that list, but corrected himself. “I WANT to hear from Ohio State,” he said with emphasis.
This is a busy season for Cobbs. He’ll work out at the Nike Opening Regional DC this weekend. He’s also busy with his 7-on-7 team at the Sport and Speed Institute, training under Coach Justin Kavanaugh. Several players that train with Kavanaugh competed in the Clash of the Titans Showcase just a few weeks ago and won MVP awards. Cobbs was set to compete that day but instead was called away to a college junior day with his teammates at Hayfield.
The Spring Evaluation period is now underway, so it’s open season for college coaches to visit high schools. You can bet that Brian Cobbs and the other athletes at Hayfield will get a visit from quite a few college coaches in the coming weeks.
