Mountain View tight end Brendan Heatherman (2020 TE 6-4 240) saw his recruitment go from 0-to-60 in a matter of months.
He participated in our recruit757 Uncommitted Senior Showcase (for seniors and rising seniors) in January. In March, he worked out at the recruit757/Sparta Science Showcase at Redskins Park.
An injury might have slowed down his workouts, but it didn’t slow his recruitment. Offers started coming in February and they continued coming through the Spring Evaluation period.
On Tuesday, he brought his recruitment to an end with his verbal commitment to UConn.
“I knew that I felt at home and welcomed at UConn. The coaching staff are really good people, and I really liked the campus and the facilities, and all that they had to offer for academics and football,” Heatherman explained.
Heatherman visited UConn in April, and according to him, that was his start down the road to a commitment. We talked a little about his potential for early playing time, and he quickly made it clear that the success of the program is more important to him.
“Playing time isn’t a priority to me. Although they have said I could get some early playing time, I want what’s best for the team,” he said.
His first offer came in mid-February when William and Mary offered. The Tribe coaching staff saw him at the recruit757 Senior Showcase. Offers then followed from Youngstown State, Penn, ODU, Temple, Syracuse, Charlotte, Wofford, Appalachian State, Army, Richmond, UConn, Harvard, Yale, the Citadel and Georgetown.
Extremely excited to announce my commitment to the University of Connecticut‼️Big thanks to the coaching staff for giving me this opportunity‼️⚪️🔵🐺 #GoHuskies #RaiseTheBar #UConnNation @RandyEdsall @CoachCEdsall @Coach_Moyseenko @Harris_DavidJ @TheViewFootball pic.twitter.com/Tv5SxUJabc
