Reuben “R.J.” Adams is getting plenty of college looks early.
Last week, he landed an offer from Liberty after a weekend swing to Alabama and Tennessee with his teammates and head coach Gary Wortham.
This past weekend, he visited the University of Maryland and landed a scholarship offer from the Terps on Monday morning.
“After having a great time on campus this past weekend, I am thankful today to receive an offer from The University of Maryland,” Adams said in a Tweet.
Adams has visited Liberty as well, so the offer from the Flames didn’t come as a complete surprise.
“Liberty is a great school. I’ve been there before and one of my close teammates is committed there. It’s a great school. It’s close to home and I love everything about it there. I can’t wait to go back,” he said.
The teammate he’s speaking of is fellow lineman Henry Chibueze, who committed to Liberty out of the recruiting class of 2018. R.J. Adams is a member of the Class of 2020, so he has quite a bit of time to work out his recruitment. Offers from the SEC may come. He enjoyed the southern swing he took with his teammates at the beginning of the month.
“Alabama is beautiful and so is Tennessee. I did talk to Coach Saban. They were impressed with my body they said. They think Offensive Guard is a perfect position for me to play due to my size and athleticism,” R.J. explained.
Adams added that Coach Wortham took Antoine Sampah (SO LB 6-2 210), Taylor Harris (JR DB 5-11 170), Sheku Tonkara (SO DT 6-2 262), and James Gillespie on the trip to Alabama and Tennessee.
There are quite a few schools who are showing interest in Adams. Sampah is approaching two dozen offers at this point, and Adams will be drawing plenty of his own soon enough.
“To be honest I have no idea (who’s about to offer). Different schools have been talking to coach. ECU, Virginia Tech, and West Virginia are interested as of right now,” Adams stated.
R.J. now holds scholarship offers from Old Dominion, Liberty and Maryland.
We’ll have a separate update coming soon on the recruitment of Adam’s Woodbridge teammate, Antoine Sampah. Sampah may well be the #1 linebacker prospect in the state for the Class of 2020.
