The Patriot High School football program has been almost nothing but a success since the school opened in 2011. Now they’ll have to find a new head football coach as Brud Bicknell has resigned from his position leading the program.
Over seven seasons, the Pioneers are 47-30 under the leadership of Brud Bicknell. Patriot has had five playoff appearances in that time, with their best record of 9-3 coming in 2014 and 2016.
Coach Bicknell joins fellow Cedar Run District coaches Dan Evans (Osbourn Park) and Mark Cox (Battlefield) in stepping down after the season.
Bicknell has a long and storied career in coaching football, including college stops at Tulane, Dartmouth, Maine and Wake Forest as an assistant coach. In 1998, he started the football program at Monticello High school in Charlottesville where he led the team to the Division 3 state title game in 2003 and to a state championship win in 2007. His overall record at Monticello was 91-53, giving him a 138-83 record as a high school head coach.
