One thing is certain. As high school football players go, Zion Dayne is a load. He gets it honestly.
Heading into the regular season, we recognize the top 30 senior prospects in and around Northern Virginia. Continuing our countdown at number 23 is South County High School fullback Zion Dayne.
#23 Zion Dayne (2020 DT 6-3 240) – South County High School
Zion Dayne first hit the radar as a bear of a fullback in his freshman season. Since then, he has evolved into a pass catcher and even a defensive lineman for the Stallions.
The bloodline screams for recognition. Zion is the son of former Wisconsin RB Ron Dayne. In his college career with the Badgers, Ron Dayne rushed for 7,125 yards on 1,220 carries with 71 rushing touchdowns. He was the 1999 Heisman trophy award winner and his 12 200-yard rushing games at the college level is matched only by Ricky Williams and Marcus Allen. Ron had an NFL career that lasted eight seasons.
Zion is a well-muscled menace on the defensive line at South County. While his dad came out of high school weighing 270 pounds and fighting to have a college program consider him as a tailback, Zion is leaner and he’s already made his college commitment. His solid GPA and 1300 SAT score landed him quite a few offers from Ivy League schools, and Zion committed to Yale this summer.
Zion landed more than 20 college scholarship offers, including every Ivy League school, plus William and Mary, Richmond, Liberty, James Madison, VMI, Georgetown and the Air Force Academy.
His role for South County has him playing on both sides of the ball. He’s expected to a force for the Stallions, and that’s good for Coach Jerry Pannoni and the crew.
