As the regular season inches closer and closer, we’re witnessing more and more prospects announce their verbal commitment before the start of the summer.
Prospects such as Hakeem Beamon (Manchester), Brandon Smith (Louisa County), Immanuel Hickman (Matoaca) and C.J. Jackson (Hermitage) have made it a point to announce their commitment before the start of the regular season so the focus can solely centralize on week one football by the time August rolls around. We can now add Monacan starting linebacker Tanner Addams (2019 LB 6-3 210) to the mix of prospects that have announced their verbal commitment. On Wednesday evening, Adams vowed to take a chance on the program that provided him with his one and only offer in the United States Military Academy.
“I just felt very comfortable and the coaches really wanted me,” Addams told recruit804. “I had other schools talking to me but just felt it was the best fit for me. I also wanted to concentrate on the season with my teammates and work for a state championship.”
Announcing his commitment allows him to focus all of his efforts on Monacan football for the upcoming season alongside Stone Snyder (2019 LB 6-3 225), Juan Branch (2019 LB 5-7 165), Jack Murphy (2019 LB 6-0 180) and the rest of the Monacan defense. Addams initially picked up his offer from the Black Knights on April 13 after taking visits up to West Point twice. It was at the Spring Game that Army knew it wanted to build a long-term relationship with the Monacan product.
“It felt great honestly knowing that those guys have believed in me. I went up to West Point twice. One was for an unofficial visit and the other was for the Spring Game where I got my offer. The first time I went it was just really for a tour, but the Spring Game was live and I loved it,” Addams stated to recruit804 back in April.
With Addams now off the table, it becomes a waiting game to see which prospect will be the next to announce his commitment. Monacan opens up regular season at home on August 24 where they’ll take on Hanover. The Chiefs opened the season last year with the Hawks at the top of their schedule and were able to come away with a 26-14 victory.
