recruit804 Fab 30: Kevin Dameron Essex HS #17
by Andy Hilton, recruit804
Our #17 player in the Fab 30 of the 804 is a two way player. Given his skills and size, he can be dominant at the running back position, punishing fellow high school defenders.
Heading into the regular season, we recognize the top 30 senior prospects in and around the city of Richmond. Continuing our countdown as the 17th best senior prospect region-wide is Essex High School running back and defensive lineman Kevin Dameron.
#17 Kevin Dameron (2019 RB/DE 6-1 260) – Essex High School
Old Dominion landed a commitment from Kevin Dameron earlier this year. The Monarchs pounced before many other college coaches discovered what Assistant Coach Kermit Buggs saw in Kevin. Coach Buggs has roots in the smaller, rural schools of Western Tidewater. Buggs began his coaching career at Surry County High School. Essex is a similar school, playing Class 1 competition, and that’s where Kevin Dameron is doing his damage.
For his play at running back, Dameron was selected as a First Team All-District, First Team All-Region and First Team All-State for VHSL Class 1 in 2017. He’s a powerhouse at running back, but it’s very likely that Dameron will be moved to the defensive line once he gets to college.
You can expect that Essex’ success in 2017 will be mirrored in 2018. Dameron’s Essex team finished one game short of the Class 1 State Championship game in 2017, narrowly losing to eventual state champion Riverheads High School by a score of 17-14 in the state semifinal.
