In terms of college recruiting, Cox defensive end Jordan Williams is ahead of the game. A rising junior, Williams (JR DE 6-5 230) has the build that college coaches love when it comes to his position. His Cox squad ended the 2014 season with a school record setting 9-3 win loss record with eight regular season wins. Now Jordan is stepping up with his first big time scholarship offer. His stock is certainly rising.
He visited the University of Maryland for football camp in late June and came back with the news.
“Last weekend after the Big Man Camp, Coach (Chad Wilt) took me on a tour of the facilities,” said Williams. “(Head) Coach (Randy) Edsall came up to me at dinner after the Big Show and said he was impressed with me and told me I had an offer to play at the University of Maryland.”
The Big Show is the showcase event that Maryland holds at the end of their football camp, recognizing the top players that are in line for scholarship offers. A scholarship offer to a rising junior is somewhat rare, but Williams’ performance at the camp obviously merited the offer.
“It’s really just a blessing. I want to thank God, my parents, and Coach Stachelski for everything they are doing for me,” Jordan added.
We’re in the dead period for college recruiting right now, but Williams plans to close out July with more college visits and camps before practices start. We’re already at the cusp of the football season. Maryland is the first in on Jordan, but you can expect the interest and offers to pile up as the year moves on.
