In his sophomore season, Kempsville DE Jaylon White (2022 DE 6-3 220) was a part of breaking a long running losing streak by the Chiefs.
Kempsville may have managed only one win in 2019, but that win was groundbreaking.
Now White has a personal victory under his belt that may be only one win, but it’s a sign of greater things to come. Jaylon sees his first offer as the beginning of a run of success.
On Tuesday, White picked up his first college scholarship offer when head coach Ricky Rahne and the Old Dominion Monarchs made their pitch to keep Jaylon close to home.
“Getting the first offer feels real good,” Jaylon said Wednesday. “I’m striving for more.”
That’s understandable considering the high ceiling that White possesses.
Jaylon is a soon to be 17-year-old junior with plenty of upside. There’s room on his frame to add muscle mass and there could be another growth spurt left.
The Monarchs may see him fitting the mold of defensive end Oshane Ximines, who had a heralded career at Old Dominion. Ximines came to the Monarchs from Ahoskie, North Carolina and he was woefully underrecruited coming out of high school. Ximines is now a second-year NFL defensive end at 6-3.5 and 252 pounds manning the edge for the NY Giants.
While at Old Dominion, Ximines was selected to the CUSA All-Freshman team, then made All-Conference Second Team as a sophomore before earning First Team All-Conference honors in his junior and senior seasons. His career stat line in four seasons at Old Dominion was 49 games played, 176 tackles, 33 sacks, one INT, 11 forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.
Could Jaylon White be the next O’Shane Ximines? Let’s wait and see.
