Recruiting hasn’t slowed for Deshawn Boone

Recruiting has been a little tougher this fall.
No game film. Some colleges aren’t even playing and Virginia high schools, with the exception of a few private schools, aren’t playing either.
The coaching staff at Virginia State has been on the ball. They’re getting out and making offers.
On Tuesday, Ocean Lakes defensive back Deshawn Boone (2021 DB 5-9 160) landed an offer from the Trojans.
“I love the opportunity to be able to play for an HBCU. They like my physicality and ability to make plays on the ball,” Boone said after getting the offer from VSU assistant coach Trumaine Watson.
Boone added that the relationship with Coach Watson is just starting, but he’s highly interested in the Trojans.
Deshawn’s offer list now includes Virginia State, Lawrence Tech, Elizabeth City State, Alderson Broaddus and Christopher Newport University. That’s a good mix of Division II and Division III schools.
Boone also discussed his interest in playing his senior season, even if he makes a college commitment before then.
“I thought about signing in January since I only have classes, but I decided to play my senior year,” he said.
His recruitment is far from finished. Boone reports interest from VMI, LIU and Norfolk State. Division I football may be in his future after all.
Opportunities will continue to come for Deshawn. In the meantime, he puts in his work and bides his time.
