Matoaca’s senior athlete Devin Bailey had a good showcasing at the Clash of the Titans Camp. He had a chance to compete against some of the best competition in the state of Virginia making a good impression. As a junior, Devin recorded 25 tackles, two interceptions and one fumble recovery. Offensively, he recorded 12 catches for 112 yards. Unfortunately, with the fall football season on hold, we are not going to be able to see the talented athlete perform at a high level. He did do a great job of displaying that athletic ability at camp.
When asked about his experience at the camp he stated, “It was good, it was nice coming out here and having fun with these guys. It was nice to have that experience competing against these guys.”
Football can be a challenging sport for many high school athletes, but outworking the next man can take you a long way. The same amount of opportunities that football can bring an athlete, it can bring the same amount of obstacles.
Bailey stated, “I just push myself every single day, staying focus, and just see what the future has in store for me. Just getting better mentally and understanding X’s and O’s.” He has also taken advantage of this off-season to improve as a player. He continued, “I want to keep growing, get bigger and stronger. It is very important for me to stay in the weight room because coaches like to see you get stronger, bigger and faster. I want to show coaches that I am an athlete. I am a guy that is going to go out there and put on a show.”
During this pandemic, Bailey has remained focus on the positives and staying motivated through it all.
When asked about keeping that fire and motivation he stated, “You got to have that drive, stay focus, and keep grinding. My mom motivates me to keep going because she is still working that 9-5. Since I was like one, she’s just been grinding for me and my four siblings and I want to be able to get her out of that situation” Devin currently holds a preferred walk-on offer from VA Tech, an offer from Hampton-Sydney, and an offer from Washington and Jefferson College. Recruit804 will continue to monitor his recruitment and give you updates on his future.
