For the second time in four years, the Oscar Smith Football Family mourns the loss of one of their own. First responders rushed to the Oscar Smith practice fields on Wednesday night to treat a JV Football player who subsequently died at Chesapeake General Hospital.

Friday night, the Southampton Academy Raiders traveled to Raleigh to play against the Word of God Christian Academy Holy Rams, a team that had a 35 game win streak going. Word of God has won the last 3 state titles in the Colonial Carolina Conference. Southampton Academy could not compete in playoffs last year because it was their first year in conference.
This week’s Freedom Ford Player of the Week is Bayside senior running back Taquan “Smoke” Mizzell. In the Marlins’ homecoming game, Mizzell almost singlehandedly drove the scoring for his team, accounting for five touchdowns in a 44-0 win over Tallwood.
