VMI lands commitment from Jason Johnson

The Keydets have recruited the Richmond area well over the past few seasons. Currently there are 20 former 804 ball players listed on their roster. Some familiar names include Korey Bridy (Monacan), Stone Snyder (Monacan), Tristan Mann (Monacan) Alex Oliver (Atlee), Christian Dunn (Benedictine), and Will Reid (Douglas Freeman). The pipeline from Richmond to Lexington, VA continues to grow as another local prospect gave his verbal commitment to the Keydets earlier this month.
Glen Allen’s Jason Johnson (2021 OLB/DE 6-2 220) verbally committed to VMI back on December 1st. He announced his decision via Twitter. When asked about his commitment, Johnson stated, “It feels great to have my commitment out of the way. It was a lot of weight I was carrying on my shoulders for a while.”
He continued, “I chose VMI because of their alumni network. Having a degree from there will give me life-long connections and will set me up for a great future.”
Johnson is being recruited to VMI by Assistant Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator Tom Clark. Clark is no stranger to the talent the 804 area produces. He’s often recruited this area during his tenure as Head Coach at Catholic University (1994-2000/2004-2005) and while he was at William and Mary (Def. Cord 2001-2003/DB Coach 2012-2014) and Liberty University (Def Cord. 2006-2012).
“Coach Clark and I maintained a great relationship throughout the recruiting process. He always told me that I was on the top of his list and that my time would come and to be patient. Most coaches wouldn’t say that, but coach Clark always kept it real with me and never did anything to make me question going to VMI.”
Johnson recorded 47 solo stops and seven sacks for the Jaguars last fall. Glen Allen returns a lot of talent and experience from last year’s team that finished with a 5-5 record. The Jaguars could be a fun team to watch once football returns to Virginia in the spring.
