The Old Dominion Monarchs picked up another home grown product on Wednesday with the commitment of Indian River lineman Stephon Dubose (2021 OT 6-3 285).
Dubose waited until Wednesday to honor his grandmother who passed away eight years ago on August 5.
“My mom choose this day because it means a lot to the both of us,” said Stephon. “It’s a unreal feeling, after the hard work and my mom sacrifices for me it’s a big long journey.”

Stephon announced his commitment in a video montage posted to Twitter. The video featured him working out with trainer Giavanni Ruffin at his TNDO Gym.
Dubose was a First Team All-Region 5A selection in 2019. He decided to stay home with Old Dominion over East Carolina, Marshall and James Madison, who were in his top four that he announced on June 27.
The day was big for Old Dominion in more than one way. Not only did the Monarchs land Dubose, but they also landed North Carolina wide receiver Jordan Bly, the son of 757 native Dre Bly.

The elder Bly played for Western Branch, went on to play for North Carolina, then enjoyed a long career in the NFL.
Along with the commitment, Jordan posted #TwoUpTwoDown in his tweet, noting his connection to Virginia.
