On Friday, Jalen Jones (2021 WR/DB 6-0 170) got the news that he’s been working so hard for.
William and Mary offered him a football scholarship.
Tribe defensive backs coach Ras-I-Dowling, himself a Deep Creek grad, was the one to extend the offer.
“It’s his first offer,” said Deep Creek head coach Andre Twine. “They think he’s a smooth athlete with great ball skills. It doesn’t hurt that he has a 4.0 GPA.”
Twine shared that while William and Mary is the first to offer, Jones has also been getting significant recruiting interest from Wake Forest, Liberty and Norfolk State. Virginia Tech is pursuing him as a Track athlete.
“Jalen is a great kid. He’s been a starter since his sophomore year. As a junior, he was second on the team in interceptions and he averaged 19 yards a catch (on the offensive side),” Twine explained.
William and Mary got an early class of 2021 commit last year when Norview slot back and DB Marqeese Dietz verballed. Tribe head coach Mike London has intently recruited the 757 for his entire college coaching career, most notably when he was at the University of Virginia and built a recruiting haul from the 757 that included Taquan Mizelle, Quin Blanding and Andrew Brown. All three of those athletes are now in the NFL with the Chicago Bears, Carolina Panthers and Cincinnati Bengals respectively.
London is a 757 alum, having played his high school ball at Bethel High School in Hampton. He played his college ball at the University of Richmond and returned to the Spiders as their head coach in 2008 for his first head coaching job after 19 seasons as an assistant coach at Richmond, William and Mary, Boston College, Virginia and a one season stop with the Houston Texans.
