Billy Edwards Jr. Decommits from Old Dominion, Commits to Wake Forest
by Marc Goldstein, recruitNoVA
Senior quarterback at Lake Braddock Secondary School Billy Edwards Jr. (2021 QB 6-3 195)made a shocking announcement recently. He had been committed to the Old Dominion Monarchs ever since June, but after receiving an offer from Wake Forest, he decided to decommit from the Monarchs in favor of the Demon Deacons. Billy had been active in his attempts to bring more talent to Norfolk, but in the end, chose to better himself by going to play for Wake Forest.
Billy is a very prominent quarterback in the Northern Virginia region. His star has been on the rise all year, despite the lack of a fall football season.
The decision to commit to the Monarchs in June was one that made a lot of sense for both parties, as ODU was one of the best opportunities for Billy, and he had established a good relationship with the coaches. That being said, even when a player verbally commits, schools still can extend offers to recruits. Wake Forest did just that, and in the process, landed Billy.

Wake Forest is again rising to prominence in the ACC.
The Demon Deacons have gone to bowl games in each of the past two seasons, and have put together a solid team.
Like Billy’s college prospects, the Demon Deacons are on the rise, and they have established a foothold on recruiting in the Northern Virginia area.
Currently, they sit at 4-3, and are trying to gain another bowl appearance under coach Dave Clawson. The team has found success with quarterbacks in recent years, with players like Jaime Newman and Sam Hartman having the most recent success. Both Newman and Hartman would be great role models for Billy to study the college game. They both have valuable experience and have insight on what it takes to be a college quarterback. Class of 2020 Broad Run quarterback Mitch Griffis is also on the depth chart at Wake.
With Billy’s announcement, there might be more dominoes to fall.
The Monarchs now most likely need another quarterback recruit due to the fact that they just lost one. The Demon Deacons just got one, and have a guy that will compete for everything on the field. Billy is a proven winner and competitor. He will definitely give it everything he has on the field. Edwards wants to prove to everyone that he is worthy of his newfound Power Five stature.
