Princess Anne linebacker Aaron Glover was the out-of-towner that made a big splash. Glover followed up last year’s MVP performance at the Maryland 5-Star with another award winning performance this year. He was the only 757 area athlete at the event, but that didn’t slow him down.

If you think that the halls at Indian River High School are quiet since Andrew Brown left, you’d be wrong. Brown wasn’t the only top college prospect for the Braves, and college coaches are still streaming into the high school to see the football talent. Tyler Fain is attracting a lot of attention. As he finishes off his junior year, he’s looking forward to a senior season that is certain to lock in his reputation as a top level college bound talent.

I.C. Norcom strongman Aaron “Simba” Parker made a strong showing at Junior Rank camp last May. He was impressive with his combination of strength, endurance, smarts, and character. At Norcom, Parker was a go to back when the Greyhounds needed to gain tough yardage.

Granby athlete William Smith is making the rounds already and he’s made another college stop. The proximity of Hampton University allowed “Boojoe” to take in a quick visit with the Pirates. He’s still looking for his first offer, but college interest is certainly picking up.

($$) Quin Blanding’s commitment to the Cavaliers was big for him and big for the Hoos. There’s a developing history of Bayside players committing to UVA, but there’s also an interesting history with Quin Blanding and his football career. He’s grown up playing the game. Mom, Dad, and his coaches watched him grown from a lanky Pop Warner kid playing running back into a top notch wide receiver and defensive player at the high school level. Blanding will go on to college to play on the defensive side of the ball. That’s a long way away from his younger days, when he was running the ball all over the field.

It’s easy to argue that after reclassification, the districts don’t exist any more. For the time being, the district structure still exists in football, at least for the purpose of scheduling. In the former Eastern District, all eight teams have scheduled each other in 2013, and they’ve dropped in three “out-of-district” games in order to fill out their schedules.

Virginia Tech’s opener is set, and it’s a doozy. ESPN announced Tuesday that the Hokies and the Crimson Tide will kick off the football season on at 5:30 p.m. in the Georgia Dome on August 31 in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff. The game will now be one of three top flight match ups to air nationally that night.
