Battlefield LB Matt Binkowski commits to the Dukes

Jalen Stroman of Patriot High School made a verbal commitment to Virginia Tech over the weekend.
Meanwhile, a three-hour drive due north I-81 (depending on traffic), the James Madison Dukes were pleased to welcome their newest addition, as Battlefield inside linebacker Matt Binkowski (c/o 2021, 6-1 218), who received his 25th offer, from the Dukes, last week, decided to make the commitment to the Harrisonburg school.
Like Stroman, Binkowski was a first-team Region 6B team selection (defensive end) as well as first team Cedar Run District selection (all-purpose)
Binkowski received a great deal of interest among Eastern FCS schools, including six from the Ivy League, William and Mary, and Fordham. However, among BCS schools, all three service academies and Liberty had also extended offers.
However, Binkowski was waiting to hear from JMU, and accepted the offer last Friday, just hours after receiving it.
Binkowski credited Dukes linebacker coach Bryant Haines and defensive tackle coach Marcus Hall-Oliver for opening a solid two-way communication with him. Hall-Oliver headed the recruiting charge for Binkowski, while Haines will serve as Binkowski’s position coach once he arrives at JMU, which finished the 2019 season with a 14-2 record and FCS national championship berth under first-year coach Curt Cignetti.
Binkowski told Harrisonburg’s Daily News Record, “(I) had a lot of great options, but at the end of the day JMU was the best fit for me.”
