The recruitment of Sheridan Jones certainly accelerated over the past six months.
After the 2017 football season, Jones decided to reclassify from the Class of 2020 to the class of 2019. He also transferred from Bishop Sullivan after playing two seasons there and he’ll play his senior season at Maury High School in Norfolk.
After narrowing his offer list to a top seven last month, Jones took a few visits, leading to announcement Friday night that he will attend college and play his college ball at Clemson.
In a video posted on Twitter, Jones showed two minutes of himself working out, and then announced: “I’m Sheridan Jones and I’m going to Clemson University.”
In late March, Sheridan narrowed his list to Alabama, Tennessee, Nebraska, Clemson, Virginia Tech, Ohio State and South Carolina.
He visited Clemson last Saturday for the Tigers’ Spring Game. Jones committed to his recruiting coach Brent Venables and Tigers Head Coach Dabo Swinney on the visit, but waited until tonight to formally announce it.
Clemson sports site Tigernet.com interviewed Jones about the commitment.
“Clemson pretty much had an up on everybody from when they offered me,” Jones told Tigernet. “That was one of the schools I was considering even when I didn’t have the offer and once I got it they were showing love from there on out.”
“Clemson is a huge family so it makes me feel at home every time I’ve been there. It’s a great school academically and athletically. Clemson has the best of both worlds and their need for a DB (in the 2019 class) just bumped things up even higher.”
Jones’ commitment to Clemson gives the Tigers their second commitment from the 757 region in three years. Cox High School defensive lineman Jordan Williams committed from the recruiting class of 2017, and is in position to compete for playing time this fall.
The Clemson recruiting class of 2019 is filling up fast. Jones became the 10th prospect to commit to the Tigers, pushing Clemson closer to the halfway mark of completing their recruiting efforts.
