Tevin White looks forward to college visits

For most of the nearly 200 participants at Ultimate Recruit’s second Clash of the Titans, held on Sunday, the opportunity presented itself as an outlet for many players to get an initial look from college football coaches. But the main attraction at River City Sportsplex, while needing no introduction, still showed up with a purpose.
In two seasons at North Stafford, running back Tevin White (2022 RB 6-1 205) has successfully broken away from the shadow of his predecessor Devyn Ford, who is now plying his trade with the Nittany Lions of Penn State. Although his stats as a sophomore were modest (419 rushing yards, 222 receiving, five touchdowns), White’s physical skills and big play ability have made him a favorite among top football colleges. To date, the Wolverine has 18 FBS offers, including nods from Tennessee, Virginia Tech, and Penn State. Even Georgia has offered.
“I went to a camp there, and they offered me on the spot,” offered White, without a hint of braggadocio. “That was a surprise.”
But there’s no reason for complacency in White’s world, which is why he was out on the scorching field in shorts and cleats on Sunday.
“Competition is competition,” said White during a short break in drills, roughly an hour before he walked off with the camp overall MVP award. “It’s what makes me better.”
Between his own training, and sessions with trainer Kevin Johnson and his Team Ascension, White has maintained a busy schedule. “The good thing about this break is that we’re getting plenty of time to work on things and get better.”
And while the tailback zigged through, around, and past numerous defenders on Sunday, his on-field schedule is becoming matched by his off-field activities, which have included a number of virtual and personal visits to Big Five schools.
“My last offer was from Arizona State,” said White, “but because of COVID, I haven’t had a chance to visit.”
Other schools have been more fortunate, particularly Penn State, which White has personally visited four times. Asked if they were an early favorite, White almost dropped his poker face. “They’re up there….Ricky Slade and Devyn (Ford) have been recruiting me hard (Note: Slade recently transferred from Happy Valley to Old Dominion). After a brief pause, he continued. “I’m going to announce my Top 5 on October 2nd – right around my father’s birthday.”
While displaying an aura of modesty and a smile, White worked hard on Sunday, as he told RecruitNoVA about his goal for the day. “I plan to win the MVP award. That’s what I’m working for today.”
And at the end of the afternoon, White walked off with the Clash’s highest honor.
