Broad Run’s Alex Birchmeier added a huge nugget to his growing collection of college offers, with Florida State University extending a financial invitation to the Spartan.
Birchmeier (c/o 2023, 6-5 275) has been ranked as high as the second-best offensive lineman for his class in the state of Virginia, specializing at the tackle and guard positions. He also sports a 3.9 GPA and is a standout wrestler for Broad Run, which competes in the Potomac District as well as Class 5, Region C.
The Spartans, coached by Matt Griffis, have been one of the top Loudoun County teams for over a decade, with a 43-7 record over the past four years and consecutive Class 4 state titles in 2008 and 2009. Their annual duel with Stone Bridge has been dubbed the “Battle of the Burn,” noting the two schools’ common Ashburn location.
The FSU offer is Birchmeier’s ninth. While he has received offers from in-state schools (UVA and VA Tech) and Pennsylvania (Penn State and Pittsburgh) teams, his interest has spread as far north as Michigan State and southwest to Arkansas.
RAGANO AND MISKA WALKING (ON) TALL
A pair of Fairfax County ballers may be continuing their football careers as Division I walk-ons.
In fact, Centreville High wide receiver Nick Ragano (c/o 2021, 6-0 175) made his announcement official on Thursday, committing to the ACC’s Wake Forest Blue Demons as a preferred walk-on. Ragano is awaiting his first season with the Wildcats, but the ball catcher grabbed first-team honors in the Metro Division of the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) as a standout with Paul VI.
Miska (c/o 2021 6-0 202) has shown his winning chops as a running back and quarterback for last year’s Class 6 state champions, South County. The Stallion also received a PWO offer, from Wagner College (NY) of the Northeast Conference.
On Monday, Miska saw his college prospects take a leap forward with the addition of a PWO to the University of Virginia. “All glory to God!!,” exclaimed Miska in his Monday afternoon tweet.

Charlie and the coaching staff have a faith connection. Bronco Mendenhall and many of the UVA coaching staff are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon) and Miska is as well.
Miska had several 100-yard rushing efforts last year as the Stallions blitzed to an undefeated 15-0 season. He has shown his prowess as a right-handed pitcher and shortstop with the South County baseball team.
