Ocean Lakes defensive end Naquan Brown (2021 OLB/DE 6-3 205) bubbled to the surface of college football recruiting in his freshman year.
Brown has had an exciting recruitment and a certainly an exciting high school football career to this point. In 2019, he added more versatility to his game in taking on a role as a tight end and wide receiver. Brown became one of the top targets in the passing game at Ocean Lakes in addition to being a force on the defensive side of the ball.
On Wednesday, Brown ended his recruitment with a verbal commitment to LSU.
Parts of the commitment video were recorded on the stadium field at Ocean Lakes High School.

“Where I’m from, not too many make it out. They either die or get locked up,” said Brown in the commitment video. “I saw how my mom and family struggled, so I decided to do my part, so I focused all of my energy on football. As I got older, my competition got tougher. I lost one of my closest friends and biggest competitors on the field to gun violence. Knowing that his life was lost too soon motivated me to work harder to achieve my goals.”
Brown continued with his story, making his commitment personal. He thanked the college coaches who recruited him and the people who motivated him. He thanked his family, teachers, coaches and teammates.
“I would like to announce that I’ll be continuing my next four years at the real LBU, Louisiana State University.”
That wraps his commitment.
In June, Brown narrowed his list to six including LSU, Miami, Virginia Tech, Pitt, Penn State and Tennessee.
Brown becomes the 13th member of the recruiting class of 2021 for the Bayou Bengals. It’s not completely unusual for a Virginia athlete to commit to LSU. Woodbridge Inside Linebacker Antoine Sampah committed to LSU in the recruiting class of 2020.
