Don’t expect to see Oscar Smith quarterback Ethan Vasko (2022 QB 6-3 190) miss a beat.
Video correspondent Antowyne Shaw caught up with Ethan in November at the Elite 11 showcase in Virginia Beach. Ethan was thrilled to be seen and excited about his workout, even if it was limited to performance testing and a few opportunities to throw the ball.
“It’s been great. It’s been fun to come out here and compete with everyone. It’s great to come out and throw the ball again like we haven’t been able to in a long time,” Ethan said. Vasko had to throw to receivers he’s not used to working with, and that was a fun challenge for him. “It’s awesome to get everyone running their routes and everything. It’s good to hit different speeds and hit different routes with different people running them.”
There were around 30 quarterbacks competing at the camp, and they were all from the recruiting classes of 2022, 2023 and 2024. These are the guys are coming up through the ranks and the ones who’ll be getting the most recruiting attention in 2021. Vasko fit right into the environment.
“I’m extremely excited to (get the pads back on). I can’t wait for that. We’ll keep doing what we’ve been doing and it will pay off once we get in pads.,” Vasko stated.
UConn offered him in late October, becoming the fifth school to extend an offer. Buffalo, Morgan State, William and Mary and Virginia Tech are all in on the signal caller, who is additionally fielding interest from schools like Liberty, Duke, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Kent State, East Carolina, Eastern Michigan, Old Dominion and Louisville.
“It’s awesome (to get those offers). It’s a great feeling to have a coach reach out to you and tell you that they want you to lead their team,” he explained.
Ethan’s advice to young quarterbacks coming up? “Work hard, be coachable and you’ll make it.”
