FREDERICKSBURG, VA (3 May 2021) – Saint Michael the Archangel Catholic High School is extremely honored to announce that co-founder, chairman of the board, and head football coach Hugh Brown has been selected for induction into the Sports Faith Hall of Fame.
The Sports Faith Hall of Fame was created by Sports Faith International in 2008 and is dedicated to contributing to positive cultural change by showcasing the virtues and achievements of exemplary athletes, coaches, and teams.
Past inductees include legendary founder of the NFL George Halas, former iconic owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers Art Rooney, New York Giants owner Wellington Mara, and many others.
Mr. Patrick McCaskey, vice president of the Chicago Bears, nominated Coach Brown and states:
“Coach Brown has lived a life dedicated to serving others, and in a very short period of time has accomplished extraordinary achievements with his football team, program, and his school that have not gone unnoticed. His dedication to the young men on the football team has changed their lives in ways that are everlasting. His witness to his team, his school, the Christian community, and the business community are humbling. I can think of no one more deserving of this honor and recognition.”
“I am humbled and honored at this incredible blessing,” says Coach Brown. “I want to thank the Sports Faith Hall of Fame, the McCaskey family, and the Chicago Bears organization. I am inspired by the unwavering faith and astounding accomplishments of the Halas and McCaskey families. We serve a mighty and awesome God, and to God be the glory!”
In his three years as the St. Michael Warriors head football coach, Coach Brown has achieved a 23-4 record. In the program’s infancy in 2018, Coach Brown led the Warriors to an 8-1 record and a Military Bowl championship in the Eastern Christian Conference. The following year, 2019, was the team’s first year of VISAA state competition with the Warriors shocking the world by defeating the perennial state powerhouse Roanoke Catholic on the last play of the game to win a miraculous state championship. In the fall of 2020, the Warriors had the distinction of playing in the first high school football game in Virginia that season. With dedicated preparation, the Warriors overcame COVID-19 and defeated their first-ever Division 1 opponent and their first public school opponent. Coach Brown attributes the team’s success to their culture of faithfulness, to putting family first, and to hard work. He has had numerous players receive football scholarships for college.
As chairman of the board, Coach Brown has helped lead St. Michael by walking in faith. The school has overcome tremendous challenges, and the Lord has allowed incredible things to be done for His great glory. This summer, the school is launching a multi-million-dollar Capital Campaign titled, “Hope for the Future,” to build its campus, fields, and facilities to serve its students and to serve God.
Coach Brown is a University of Maryland alum who played linebacker from 1987-1991. Brown ran a successful printing and mailing company from the early 1990s through 2017.
