The Bethel Bruins’ leading scorer for the 2015-2016 season, Kyle Foster, verbally committed to continue his basketball career at Howard University following graduation in 2017.
“It felt like a big weight had been lifted off of my shoulders, I no longer had to focus on getting interest from other schools. Now I can just focus on perfecting and polishing my craft and getting ready for the college game,” said Bethel Junior, Kyle Foster.
Howard sought interest in Kyle Foster during Summer 2015 while playing AAU Basketball for Boo Williams WAWG coached by Stefan Welsh, former Woodside Wolverine and Arkansas Razorback basketball player.
“Coach Stef was really the one who started my recruitment. He really got my name out there and pushed me to get my game better,” said Foster.
Foster transferred back into the Peninsula District for his junior year after playing a year at Peninsula Catholic. After a slow start, Foster quickly became a prominent part of the Bruins’ offense and averaged 15 ppg.
“The PD is just a totally different animal. It’s tougher and it gets more publicity. The tougher competition helped me ready myself more for the style of college play and the media definitely helped my name get out there,” said Foster.
Kyle Foster, coached by Craig Brehon who just finished his 21st season with the Bruins, picked up second team All-PenSouth Conference Honors.
“Coach Brehon helped my game out a lot and he contacted coaches for me. In practice and games he was hard on me and it kind of gave me a taste of how the college life would be,” stated Foster.
Foster will be the second peninsula district player in recent years to become a Bison following former Phoebus Phantom James Daniel III “J-Byrd”, who led the NCAA in scoring with 27.1 ppg for the 2015-2016 season.
