After losing some talent from last year, there are a trio Lake Taylor players that have caught some attention in recent months and are on the look out for this coming season.
Jalen Jordan, Joe Bryant Jr., and Dereon Seabron are three that have shown improvement as rising juniors for the Titans. They have all participated in team camps throughout the summer.
“We’ve been working all summer; it’s been a pretty good summer for us,” Lake Taylor assistant coach Derrick Edwards said.
Edwards mentioned how the Titans playing in the recent Virginia Wesleyan Team Camp was a good experience for them.
Aside from their involvement in team camp, each other guys have been in the gym all summer, working on different skills they felt needed improvement.
Jordan, already a deft three-point shooter, has been working on ball handling and footwork, Seabron, one of the area’s most versatile prospects, has focused on shooting, defense and rebounding, and Bryant Jr. has been concentrating on his ball handling, shooting and defense while going into the gym twice each day.
Each of the rising juniors have looks from Division 1 schools at the moment. Jordan has interest from James Madison and Cincinnati, Bryant has an offer from Hampton University, and Seabron has offers from Hampton and Mount St. Mary’s University.
The Titans made a run last season and ended up in the Group 4A state championship, but lost to Monacan.
“We lost a lot from last year, so it’s time for some kids to step up so we can make another run this year,” Edwards said in talking about the upcoming season.
While the whole team wants another shot at the championship, Edwards says that’s the focus but he doesn’t want to make any expectations.
“We just want to get better practice by practice, day by day,” Edwards said
