It doesn’t come as a shocker that Timothy Montgomery plays a key role as a rising sophomore point guard at Princess Anne High School. Little Montgomery is determined to follow the footsteps of his older brother Gregory Montgomery. Greg, was a standout player at Princess Anne and continued his basketball career at Virginia Wesleyan College were he graduated in 2015.
“I’ve been playing basketball since I was 3 … My brother influenced me to play basketball because he was the star in the family and I wanted a little shine too,” said Tim. “My brother impacted my basketball career by getting my name around the state just by him displaying his talents on the court and having people fear me because of the name Montgomery.”
This summer little Montgomery has been working hard to develop his off the dribble jump shot and putting in different finishes to his layup game.”
I believe the team that I go to will have a great season and to win every championship that we are in and to be sure we make it there,” Montgomery said.
Despite the fact that their head Coach Tim Sparks stepped down just last week because of some life changing decisions he had to make, Montgomery and his team have been working really hard this summer to grow a bond to have a successful season next year after finishing 14- season.
“Coach sparks is a teacher on the court and he always let me know that I was the best thing out on the court. He taught me to be confident, not cocky. He was a great coach and he was even better because he was a spiritual coach who loved God. One thing I can always remember about coach sparks is that he wouldn’t ever go to a place with mentioning his players to a coach or giving one of us recognition,” said Montgomery.
Two years ago, Montgomery lost a his oldest brother T.J and it was a big wake up call for him. It motivated him more than ever.
“My idol is my dead brother, I play every game for him and I will get where I want and he will be on the top of my mind while for every strive I take to be successful,” Montgomery said.
Montgomery has interest from Longwood University, Lees McRae, Virginia State, Norfolk State, Hampton, and Rice.
“I want to build as a player and get my killer instinct back and to kill everybody that gets in my way like I used to before I lost my confidence,” little Montgomery said.
