Freedom High School’s own IV has announced that he will play basketball at Mount St. Mary’s University.
“I just feel relieved because it’s been a long process and I feel like I made a good decision for my future career,” West said.
The point guard said that his decision came down to Howard and Mount St. Mary’s, but he felt as though The Mount’s style of play was the best fit for him. “I’ve known the head coach (Jamion Christian) since I was little, so I trust him with my future,” West said. “He’s one of the coaches that really stayed in contact with me over the whole AAU season this summer.”
Throughout the summer, West has been playing travel ball with his BWSL team, which he says has been one of the best AAU seasons he’s ever had. Along with AAU, West has been consistently in the weight room working on getting bigger, and working out with his father and high school coach, James West III.
Heading into his senior year, West said this decision took a weight off his shoulders. West will prep after his senior year and join the Mountaineers’ program as a freshman in 2018.
“I get to go into my senior year stress free and just play basketball now,” West said.
